Season One

1. The Promised Life -    September 28th 1999

Fiver has a vision, a vision of horror and death. His older brother Hazel and friends, Bigwig, Hawkbit, Dandelion, Blackberry and Pipkin all leave Sandelford warren with them, follwing Fiver's dream of 'high lonely hills'. The series begins with the rabbits resting in a clearing. Bigwig and Hawkbit are grumpy about running on a dream, but Hawkbit goes too far when he says he wants to go back. During the argument, a dog catches their scents and Hazel and Bigwig uptake the task of distracting the predator, sure that this is the only chance that the other exhausted rabbits will get to escape. After a clever trick with a fallen log, the two bolt to their group, only to find them stranded on one side of a wide river, The River Enborne.

Hopeless, but brave, Hazel is prepared to fight the dog. He won't leave their side of the river without his younger brother and the kitten, Pipkin. "I got him into this, I won't leave him."

Bigwig offers to stay with his loyal chief, but their heroic actions are rendered unnecessary as Blackberry, the one and only doe among them, clevery works out that if Pipkin and Fiver were to use the assistance of a piece of floating wood, they could float to the other side. The dog is very close.

Everything is going well until the current decideds to muck it all up. The two rabbits are stranded, exhausted in the centre of the river and returning at a great speed to the bank from which they came. Luckily, big Owlsa Captain, Bigwig, has plently of strength left and pushed the younger bunnies to the opposite bank.

After the necessary thank you's, the drenched and worn out crew are pushed on by Hazel, who seems to have taken leadership into his own paws, and continue onto the 'high lonely hills'.

Later, they take refudge in a bean field and alll try and catch some sleep, but Pipkin who is young and seems to have a bundle of energy left ( in my opinion could have easily made it across the water but just sat there like a tragic dam in distress) is bounding around after a toad.

Here he meets Keharr, the lost seagull. They make friends and depart, Pipkin being too polite just to ignore his wailing.

Still on the move, the rabbits cross a moor. The horrible weather does nothing to help their mood and Hawkbit rightly point out that the place 'looks like the end of the world'. Fiver is honestly contemplating returning about 100 miles because he suddenly loses faith, but then the mysterious fog clears and there we go! High lonely hills right in front of you!

To add to their joy, Nuthanger Farm is in their path and the smell of sweet flay-rah wafts up to their noses. Bigwig is all for charging down there and burgularing the entire place, but Hazel stops him. Seriously, Bigwig, have some consideration for everyone else. So Dandelion tells the story of El-ahrairah and creation, which is a nice time passer and then its dark and time for some stealing. This show sets a good example.

The rabbits are stuffing their faces but Pipkin is off investigating, seemingly never tired. He and Bigwig should have went to the farm earlier and it would have saved alot of trouble. Keharr and his friend, Hannah, a fieldmmouse are currently stealing fish from the cat. This farm should get a  burgular alarm.

The rabbits consent to help out and take down the cat. Bigwig is then reluctant to accept Hannah and Keharr into the group, appearing a racist. He is ganged up against and the final length of the journey to their new home resumes.

Under a MASSIVE full moon, they climb the Down. It does make a pretty good photo. At sunrise they all line up and observe their new home."

Hazel: 'This is where we'll start again'.

Embemxrabbit - I liked it enough, sometimes the animation seemed a bit sketchy but thankfully that improves throughout the series. They started focusing on a child like theme, which brought it down a bit for me. Also, they should have shown Sandleford, but the display of Hazel's leadership and Bigwig's conflict with Fiver's seer gift is good.  6.5 out of 10
